Self-Dorktraits Explained

A lot of people ask me how I do my self-dorktraits and, instead of writing it out to every person who asks, I decided to make a post so I can just link it whenever I get a new query ;-)

I keep it super simple for these quick snap shots and use all available light.  The key is to keep my arm out of the shot :)

So how do I do it?  I’ve had enough people bug me about this (love you all, by the way) that I decided to just be a total dork and photograph myself photographing myself so that you can all see.

This is how it’s done, folks.  These two images were taken at the same moment.

How do I hold my camera upside down? A simple hand strap, which has saved my wimpy forearms many-a wedding.

By holding the camera upside down with the hand strap and using the shutter release button on the battery grip I can take upside down images and keep my arm out of the shot, producing images that LOOK like they were taken by a professional photographer!  WOW!

This is not nuclear science.  But if it were, I’d feel pretty smart . . .

I hope this answers the majority of your questions.  I’m using the 24 1.8 by sigma for these shots, 1250 ISO 2.5 Aperture priority.  Any more questions post it on my blog and I’ll let you know!

how much do you charge if someone, for example, is a dork but wants to stop…being one. and, if possible, please don´t post my name here.

There is no charge for awesomeness. Or attractiveness.
