Anna is the founder of the Hope Refugee drop in center in Buffalo, NY where she helps refugees from all over the world learn job skills and become financially stable as transplants into our country.

I met Anna in college, and was always impressed with her desire to serve and help others. From serving in the Peace Corps in Africa to providing emergency translating services in hospitals, Anna is always ready to fill a need.

I am so blessed to call her a friend, she has helped me in so many ways in the past and I will never forget her generosity.

Please look over the services she provides and consider donating or volunteering if you are able!

In April I will fly to Buffalo and do a photo essay on the Refugee drop in center and a day in the life of one awesome woman!

I love this image because I feel it really describes Anna. She is determined, hard working, and not only does she look to the future, but she takes the steps necessary to get there and helps others learn to do the same.

American Leather Woman

Back in July I was flying for work and got stuck in the very back row of the plane where the seats are not even adjustable. Luckily I was next to two super friendly ladies and we started chatting about why we were traveling. I was flying to a wedding shoot and they were flying to a charity event for The American Brotherhood in the same city!

Dakota was supposed to hand over her title of American Leather Woman to the next representative, but when I got in touch with her later it ends up she kept her title for another year! WOOT!

Of course this meant she needed some promotional photos!

We met up at a bar, Suck Bang Blow, because there was a mural there she likes.

This might be my favorite image. The wings on the mural are so perfect with her Harley!

I like this composition because Dakota gained her title for one more year, so she is IN! I also like it because, well, she looks totally badass.

Thanks so much for having me do this, Dakota & Kim! I was so glad to meet up with you both again and I hope it can happen again soon!

It really doesn’t take much to make me happy. In this instance, it only took a half of a face.

I love taking creative portraits. It doesn’t take a whole face to describe a person!

I also love clients who have no idea what I am shooting but trust anyway.

Adding Shadows to Compositions

Off camera lighting is a very useful way to define a subject more clearly as it adds shape.

When creating a composition in this way, it is important to envision how the shadows will become a part of the composition and plan accordingly.

Sven’s company, Happy Viper Integrated Designs, was featured in Vanity Fair, so we thought we would pull a little cover action into the shoot :)

Yes, he really does read The Batman Handbook. And yes, it really does teach you how to fight crime.

I told him to act bored. Because he wasn’t. Really, he wasn’t. Photo shoots with Liesl Diesel are never boring.

Play with the shadows!

I think these images would be dull without the Peter Pan Shadow Action™ (yeah, that’s my technical name for it).

Last weekend I had the super opportunity to photograph Sven, owner of Happy Viper Integrated Design in Manhattan, NY.

I talked with him about shooting the portraits to go with the name of his company. I love the contrast in the name of his company, so we went for a similar contrast in his expressions.
